WORKSHOPS

Spend a few days here on the banks of the River Wye, learning everything about wool, from processing raw fleece through to finished items.

My courses will teach you weaving, felting and natural dyeing with plants gathered from our dye garden, to make wonderful colours on silky, lustrous wool.

There is also time to sit and watch the river go by, as you take a break or eat the delicious lunch we provide.

No workshops currently planned

After many joyous years of sharing skills on the banks of the River Wye, I have taken retirement and am no longer running my 3 day workshops. Thank you to everyone who joined us over the years!

I may consider running 1 day weaving workshops for guilds, etc. so please get in touch via the contact form below if you are interested.

3 Day Workshops

Plant Dyeing, Peg Looming, Weaving and Felting

Day One · Saturday · Plant Dyeing

You will learn about chemical and natural mordanting, then gather dye plants from my garden and begin the dyeing process.  We will also use an indigo bath to dye fabric (usually linen, cotton or silk), which participants should provide themselves. When the dyed fleece is dry, you will put together sample cards showing the myriad of colours produced by the group.

During the day I will show you different fleeces, how to sort and wash one. I supply fleece, some of which I have pre-mordanted.

Day Two · Sunday · Peg Looms

You will learn to card fleece and weave a peg loom mat or hanging using some of the wool dyed the day before and a range of naturally coloured fleece.

Peg loom weaving is a simple and effective way of using wool. I have peg looms made from different woods, and this is a chance to design and make something beautiful to take home with you.

Day Three · Monday · Brinkley Looms

I will show you how to use a Brinkley loom, and also how to make a sculptural piece of felt; a bag or a bowl, as well as flat felt.  I can also demonstrate spinning on a spinning wheel.

At the end of the three days, you should have two or three samples to take home with you, and a very good over all knowledge of the process of using wool from the sheared fleece to the finished products.

All of our workshops are now fully booked

Please use the form below if you'd like to go on our cancellations list.
